Heikki Peltomaa, Chairman of Renewables Finland: Finland as Europe’s Most Interesting Renewable Energy Investment Destination
Heikki Peltomaa, CEO of wpd Suomi Oy, will continue as the Chairman of the Board of Renewables Finland ry (formerly Finnish Windpower Association). Peltomaa has been active in the wind power sector since 2006 and has been actively involved in the association’s board since 2017. With the association expanding its activities to solar power, its new strategy will play an even greater role as Finland aims for economic growth driven by renewable energy production.
“This board term and autumn will start with the implementation of our new strategy and brand, representing two complementary forms of renewable energy production. Wind and solar power are megatrends both in Finland and globally that enable the energy transition. Recognizing this fact across various fields in Finland is one of the main focuses of our new strategy,” says Peltomaa.
“Our association has expanded, and new people have been recruited to effectively manage solar power as well. To implement our updated strategy, we will further strengthen our staff, collaboration networks, and view wind and solar power more broadly as part of the energy system. Our goal is to make Finland the most interesting investment destination for the energy transition in all of Europe,” Peltomaa emphasizes.
Jenny-Li Holmström, Director of Legal Affairs at Taaleri Energia Oy, who has been actively involved in the association’s board and committees since 2013, has been elected as Vice Chair of the Board of Renewables Finland.
“As the share of wind and solar power in electricity production increases, the sector and the association need to see themselves as part of a larger whole also increases. Previously, it was possible to focus solely on building new production because it was simply the most cost-effective way to develop new energy production. In the current situation, it is essential to recognize that wind and solar power are the leading drivers of the energy transition. The energy transition is transforming the electricity system and its impacts extend more broadly to society. It is an opportunity for Finland as a whole to achieve economic growth. Over my ten-year board tenure, it has always been wonderful to see how an active board works together. I am excited to continue this work and growth,” states Jenny-Li Holmström, Vice Chair of the Board of Renewables Finland.
